MULTI-WALL TUBING

Markel maintains a well recognized reputation for the supply of a variety of multi-wall tubing styles. The development of M-Bond® Ultra Low Permeation Fuel and Vapor Tubing required the advancement of the bonding process between PTFE and nylon. An explanation of the Markel process used to prepare the surface of the PTFE forbonding is found under “Etching Fluoropolymers”.

M-Bond® Ultra Low Permeation Fuel and Vapor Tubing (see data sheet) consists of a thin wall PTFE conductive liner for fuel and non-conductive liner for vapor with a nylon jacket. The jacket is firmly bonded to the liner using the M-Bond® Process to prepare the surface of the PTFE. Periodic testing of the bond strength during the jacketing process is accomplished by flaring the tubing and determining that no delamination has occurred.

Markel M-Bond® Tubing combines a very thin wall, chemically inert, PTFE tubing with a tough nylon jacket that provides the strength necessary to assure sealed connections and tubing integrity in critical fuel delivery applications. The nylon jacket also allows the tubing to be formed and heat set in complex configurations required for engine cross-over tubes and tank bundles.

The economy of production resulting from the employment of a thin wall of the expensive PTFE supported by the relatively inexpensive nylon jacket provides a commercially viable alternative to steel tubing for many applications. These include the transfer of chemicals, foods, beverages and paint.

Markel Chemical Transfer Tubing (see data sheet) employs a liner of PTFE and a jacket of non-toxic PVC. This design provides a flexible tubing that is capable of handling caustic chemicals. The inert, noncontaminating PTFE liner makes this tubing suitable for food and beverage applications.

Markel filled PTFE ARTM Abrasion Resistant, Low Friction, Push Pull Control Cable Liner with a supporting jacket of bonded nylon is one example of a mechanical application for multi-wall tubing. See Markel data sheets for Jacketed AR-500TM and AR-650TM Control Cable Liner.

These data sheets also feature non-bonded jackets of PBT and polypropylene. The plastic jackets eliminate the need for steel wrapping in many cable designs.

Markel FEP Lined LDPE Tubing (see data sheet) is the universal choice for ground water sampling. The light weight polyethylene jacket supports a thin wall of FEP making it easy to handle in the field. The cost of this tubing is much less than the equivalent heavy wall FEP, PTFE or PVDF tubing. In the water treatment business, this tubing is used to deliver ozone from the generator to the injection site.

Markel PTFE Lined EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) Tubing serves in flexible coolant hose applications where zero permeation of the coolant is required.
